Stittsville B6 Sens Take Gold at KMHA Tournament

2014-03-15

On Sunday March 9, 2014 our Stittsville Novice B6 team won the Championship medal round in the annual Kingston Hockey Association Tournament.

A stellar effort from all 15 boys who played their hearts out to win all 5 games (including 3 incredible shut-outs from our star gaoling Chaz Church-Grant).  The weekend kicked off on Friday March 7th with a game against Cumberland Dukes, running a tight race to the end giving B6 the win.  On Saturday morning, Ben Keogh scored the 1st goal tying the game against the Nepean Gladiators positioning B6 for their 3 to 2 win.  B6 went on to win the afternoon game ultimately guaranteeing their spot in the playoffs for Sunday morning.  The team was pumped and we saw great moves for all our stars including Danny Stewart’s rush from the redline knick-naming him Yvan Cournoyer aka “Road Runner”, Maverick Hayes’ stellar moves from the center ice puck drop where he scored 2 goals back-to-back inside 30 seconds and Jacob Selway’s charge lending him several shots on net.  The parents were proud as they watch their boys fearlessly guard the blue line, making backhand passes to team mates, getting the puck into the opposition zone all while taking tough hits along the way.   Great defence moves from Spencer Evans who tirelessly came down centre ice and into the scoring zone shooting puck after puck at the net!  William Puncher found his game defending his zone like a brick house, centred at the blue line ready for any and all that would come at him!

No one had any expectation other than fun for the weekend away but it turned out to be so much more! Having learned that the regular hockey season was over (being pushed out of the semi-finals by Almonte that Friday night) gave them a purpose and will to close the season off with a bang in Kingston and the team did just that.  Connor Davis (aka Digger) freed the puck from corner after corner, charging players 2x his size never giving up, Trent Ladouceur, Ben Harvey and Cameron McGarry’s cat and mouse play with their stickhandling leaving the other teams guessing where the puck would be next not to mention a nice addition to our team, Yonas Shapiro, who was affiliated from C and went on to score 2 goals in the series.

Parker “lightning” Evans made shot after shot on the net proving a force to be reckoned with taking passes left right and centre to keep the puck in the opposition zone.  Proud moments for Liam Joseph and Hunter Evans for showing tenacity in every position this year (playing both wing and defence) but mostly for getting the puck out of our zone this weekend.

Thanks to all the coaches and parents who made the weekend possible.  Great memories in the “SensDen” and a great year had by all!  Thank you to the Kingston Minor Hockey Association and to all other teams who played in the tournament, making this one of the best hockey weekends of the season!  Go B6 Sens Go!  The league is proud!  Special mention to Ryan Nikopour who could not attend the weekend – we missed you!
