The 2024/2025 hockey season is approaching
quickly, and the SMHA is now recruiting both Referees and Timekeepers for the
upcoming season.
On-Ice Officials (Referees)
Being a referee requires a high level of maturity
and commitment. There is an expectation that as officials you will learn and
apply the rules appropriately and professionally at each of your scheduled
games. As such, to be considered, candidates must be 14 years old on or
before Dec 31, 2024. New officials will
likely start by officiating house league U9 and U11 games.

There
will be interviews, on-ice evaluations as a part of the recruitment process
which will likely begin in in early-mid August and on-ice training session on
August 20 for successful applicants. Additional
information and dates will be provided to successful candidates as soon as
possible.
If
you are successful in being selected as a referee for the upcoming season,
instruction on how to register for the certification clinic will be provided.

Off-Ice Officials (Timekeepers)
Being a Timekeeper requires a high level of
maturity and commitment. There is an expectation that as officials you will manage
the game clock and game sheets at all SMHA home games when assigned to either house
league or competitive games. You will be
expected to learn and remain familiar with penalty calls, referee signals,
record information on game sheets accurately and legibly in accordance with the
Referees instruction at each of your scheduled games. As such, candidates must
be 14 years old on or before Dec 31, 2024.

Testing and interviews will be conducted prior to
the start of the season to select timekeepers. Successful
candidates must also complete an online timekeeper clinic, for which a date has
yet be released. These dates will be provided to candidates as soon
as it is available.
