SMHA Player Safety

2017-10-09

Player safety is very important to SMHA. Please review the following to help all players, volunteers, families and friends enjoy a great 17-18 season.

24 Rule:

Please use the 24 Hour Rule. If you have something to say to the coach/bench staff/other, or they have something to say to you - that could be a point on contention -  please wait 24 hours after the event or the game before discussing or sending an email.

Escalation Process:

There may be an issue/concern which needs immediate and appropriate attention. Please follow the escalation path:

1) Coach, 2) Convenor, 3) Appropriate Director (House/Player/Competitive), 4) Risk and Safety Officer, 5) Executive members Committee including President.

Be reminded that the SMHA Executive is here to support our members. Please ensure an issue/concern is reported in a timely fashion and the escalation path is followed.

Appropriate actions will follow.

Two Deep Policy:

There should be a minimum of 2 adults/rostered team staff with a valid Police Record Check monitoring players in their respective change rooms.
For SMHA players, team staff and member protection, no player should be left alone or with only 1 adult/rostered staff in the change room.

No photos/video, cameras or phones in the change room:

Photos/video of players should be taken outside of the change room.

For the protection of our players, please do not use smart phones, cameras, iPads/iPods, tablets or gaming devices with photo/recording capability while in the change room.

If you need to check your email, messages, make/take a call or access the internet etc. please step out of the change room.

Any questions or concerns, email SMHA Risk and Safety Officer Sean Lowell riskandsafety@stittsvilleminorhockey.com
