The Stittsville PeeWee A1 Rams Won the Gene Harrington Tournament in New York.

A weekend to remember.  It took four months into our season to get to our first away tournament, but it did not disappoint. In a true team effort, players from every line and every position contributed to this weekend's success. We had hero's in every game.

A six-hour drive to Niagara Falls NY, a 7:30am opening day game at the University of Niagara, to the Championship and playing the championship final on the outdoor rink, this tournament never stopped providing the players and parents with memories. From the first game on to the last, this team bought into trusting their line mates. SKATE, PASS, SHOOT was the tournament theme and oh boy, did these players deliver. This tournament included two games on the outdoor rink at Riverworks in Buffalo (including the championship game) and it was more than anyone could ask.

Every game had a story line and the ending thankfully turned out to be the same, Rams WIN. After an undefeated round robin, the players took a walk from the US side, across the Rainbow Bridge to the Canadian side and down to the falls for a team picture. Then up to Clifton Hill and on to dinner. This is exactly what the doctor ordered for this team, time to connect and recharge.

For the championship game, it was a mild day, which made the ice softer, and on a small rink (13 feet shorter than a normal rink) was giving an advantage for our opponents. Though, on the opening shift of the game and the faceoff won back to the defense, our team executed a flawless breakout where Evan Chiasson takes a brilliant pass from Ben Haight to open the scoring. It remained that way until the third, when again fantastic passing among the line sets Evan Chiasson up again for the second goal. With the other team scrambling to make plays, our defense once again creates a turnover and moves the puck up to the forwards where Nolan Runte and Neil Syversen set Parker Stretch up for the third and final goal to salt away a victory.

Highlights of the tournament include; Travis Bond unleashing a flurry of slaps shots, one resulting in a highlight reel goal, teams telling their players to shudown Loïc Paré’s shots, amazing passing between Travis Bond, Tyler Wolowich and Troy Arambulo. While it was mainly our forwards scoring in this tournament, our defensive core was a big part of the reason why we won. So we need to congratulate Patrick Dawes, Markus Fossberg, Brayden Talbot, Jack Mombourquette, Trent Dowle and last line of defense, our goalie, Brandon Leeman, without his strong play, nothing happens up front.
