SMHA Code of Conduct

2018-11-22

Reminder of the SMHA Code of Conduct.

As the hockey season is now well underway, we would like to send a reminder to all players, bench staff, and parents.  Each year, when you register, you sign a Code of Conduct.  The Code of Conduct can also be found on the SMHA website.

In order to ensure a positive, safe and respectful environment for all teams, please review the following Code of Conduct and ensure that you are abiding by its terms.

Code of Conduct:
This Code of Conduct identifies the standard of behaviour that is expected of all Stittsville Minor Hockey (SMHA) members, including athletes, coaches, parents, directors and volunteers.

The SMHA is committed to providing a sport environment in which all individuals are treated with respect.  Members of the SMHA shall conduct themselves at all times in a fair and responsible manner. Members shall refrain from comments or behaviours that are violent, disrespectful, offensive, abusive, racist or sexist. In particular, conduct that constitutes harassment or abuse will not be tolerated by the SMHA.

During the course of all SMHA Minor Hockey activities and events, members shall avoid behaviour that brings disrepute to the organization or the sport of hockey, including but not limited to abusive or illegal use of alcohol or non-medicinal use of drugs.

SMHA members shall at all times adhere to SMHA, Hockey Eastern Ontario – Minor (HEO Minor) and Hockey Canada operational and discipline policies and procedures, to rules governing events and activities and to rules governing any competitions in which the member participates on behalf of the SMHA.

Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the policies of the SMHA and HEO Minor. Such action may result in the member losing the privileges that come with membership in the SMHA, including suspension of player's hockey activities or in the case of a parent, that parent's access to arena for games and practices. As well, it may result in the member losing the opportunity to participate in any activities of the Association and potentially the privilege of being a member in SMHA.
