Atom B5 Win the Bob Black Memorial Tournament

2019-02-21

Stittsville Hawks took home the gold medal from the Bob Black Memorial Tournament in Oshawa last weekend!

The tournament started off with an exciting, hard fought 2-2 come from behind tie with the Apsley Flames on Friday night.  The Flames pushed hard for the win but big, timely saves from our goalie kept us in it and helped earn a valuable point!

The action continued Saturday morning with a convincing 9-0 win over the Cayuga Stars.  The late game took a full team effort as the Hawks pulled out a 3-1 win against a very determined Fort Henry Paladin team.

Having qualified for the semi finals, the Hawks took on the KW Ice Vader's and once again came out on top with another convincing 7-0 win.  Don't let that score fool you!  This big win took a full team effort to keep the high scoring Vader's off the board!

The stage was set for the gold medal game vs. the Tillsonburg Tornadoes.  What a game it was!

The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only to see the Tornadoes tie it up minutes later.  Before the first period ended the Hawks regained the lead and headed into the second period up 2-1.

The Hawks kept pressing but the Tornadoes goalie stood on his head and kept the Tornadoes within striking distance.  Still 2-1 in the third the Hawks continued their push towards the net in wave after wave of attack.   All 3 lines pressed hard and our defense stood tall and strong even as the Tornadoes pulled the goalie and sent out the extra attacker.  As the clock ticked down the bench could start to see victory and the game ended with a 2-1 gold medal win!

Congratulations to all the players and coaches for their tremendous effort!  What a weekend,

Go Hawks Go!
