Back in late September, no one could have predicted the overwhelming success these players, relative strangers, known as the Stittsville Atom A1 Blades of Steel (BoS) would achieve during the 2018-19 hockey season.
With just 5 regular season games under their belt, they setoff to test their metal on the out of town tournament circuit and came home victorious, winning the 2018 Bradford Blue & Gold Tournament Register Select division.
Their away tournament success didn’t end there. In late January, the BoS won their second at the 9th Annual Jay Peak - Green Mountain Avalanche Tournament.
Meanwhile, in regular season play, the BoS went on to finish with a near perfect 22-1-1 record, including 7 shutouts, and earning them a spot in the round-robin championship pool.
Winning all 4 round-robin games, the BoS secured their place in the playoff finals against the ever formidable Stittsville Atom A2 Renegades.
This nail biting best of 4 playoff series saw the teams tied a game a piece after 2, but team work and perseverance eventually paid off for the BoS, besting the Renegades in the 3rd game by a score of 3-1.
Strangers no more, these 14 players will forever remember the bonds they created and the success they achieved together as a team this season.
