AGM POSTPONEMENT

2020-05-09

The Annual General Meeting of the SMHA is indefinitely postponed due to the ongoing COVID State of Emergency in Ontario.

Due to the ongoing COVID state of emergency in Ontario, SMHA is unable to hold its in person AGM.

Hockey Canada & HEO have advised associations agianst holding electronic voting.  As such, the positions we have today in place on SMHA Council will hold until further notice.  SMHA will continue to hold regular council meetings to prepare for the 2020-21 season.

The deadline for not-for-profit organizations to hold their AGMs has been extended to 90 days after the state of emergency is ended by the Ontario government.   As such, the SMHA AGM will be postponed until further notice and will be scheduled within the timeframe outlined in the Meetings for Corporations Order issued by the province.

We recognize that the AGM is the governance mechanism whereby members of the Association elect Executive positions and vote on consititution amendments.  As such, we will ensure to provide as much advance notification as possible of position nominations and consititutional amendments ahead of future AGM date.

The results of the nomination process has resulted in two positions being acclaimed with others requiring a vote.  The positions acclaimed are as follows:

President - Scott Phelan - acclaimed.
Director of Compeititive - Scott Rogers - acclaimed.

As well, the SMHA received two applications for the OVSS representative position.  Andrew Staniforth was chosen by the SMHA Executive as the OVSS rep for next season.

Remaining positions will continued to be filled by their current representative until such time that a vote can be held.

Please check the website regularly for updates.
