My name is Chris Etheridge and I will be the convenor of the Initiation Program (IP) for the 2013/2014 season. That means I will be the organizer & your primary contact at SMHA for any questions or concerns you may have, please do not hesitate to contact me. If we have not met, feel free to introduce yourself when you arrive for your child's first sessions.
Your child is invited to attend Conditioning Sessions to be held on September 1st, 8th and 14th. These sessions will allow your child to practice skating drills that they will be assessed on in the Evaluation Sessions. After these sessions your child will have a good understanding of the drills and will be placed on a team with children of similar skating ability. This is done to ensure your child maximizes their level of fun throughout the season.
Please note FULL equipment is required for all sessions (including mouth guard and neck protector). No player will be allowed on the ice if these requirements have not been met. Canadian Tire Kanata is a major sponsor of SMHA and does carry all equipment necessary.
The specific dates and times for the conditioning sessions are listed below. The players are grouped in alphabetical order by last name and will be posted on the SMHA website soon (http://stittsvilleminorhockey.com). Please bookmark this site and check back regularly for updates. For instance, there is information on the homepage around mouth guard clinics from Mobile Smiles & the Free Helmet program for kids born in 2008. Please note that due to ice constraints and the complexity of the conditioning and evaluation process we are unable to change time slots for any player.
The Evaluation Sessions are planned for September 15 & 21 (possibly the 22nd too), and they will mimic the conditioning sessions. In order for your child to be accurately assessed we ask that all players attend both sessions. Please let me know on the day of the evaluations of any medical concerns your child may have.
Parents please don’t let the evaluation process be stressful. This is an exciting time for your child. The volunteers and coaches are there to make sure your child is placed in the best possible environment with children of the same abilities in order to have the most rewarding and fun time imaginable. You will be amazed how far your child will progress after their first season.
Lastly, we are actively recruiting volunteers for:
1. Conditioning and Evaluation sessions:
- To be held on September 1, 8, & 14. Please specify the date(s) and time(s) you can help and whether you can help “on-ice” or “off-ice”.
2. For the upcoming season:
- Looking for coaches, assistant coaches, on ice helpers, trainers and managers. Please let me know if you’re interested in helping and for which position.
We will contact volunteers soon to provide more details on how you can help and the accreditation requirements necessary.
