Fantastic Finale for the Ice Hawks

2014-03-05

Families said their farewells as the Stittsville Ice Hawks ended their first minor hockey league season with a phenomenal barn-burning finish of a game in Pakenham.

Giving it their all, the Ice Hawks opened the scoring in a hard fought, fast-paced game against the league’s number two team.  Playing as friends, the Ice Hawks displayed solidarity and sportsmanship that comes from months of (early morning) practicing together.  Keeping their fans in the stands on the edges of their seats, the team never slowed down, never gave-up, shut-out their opponent’s power play and displayed their enthusiasm and passion for hockey the entire game.

Whether skating backwards, defending their net and their goalie, getting the puck, back-checking, passing the puck, deking through for a breakaway or going for the cookie, the Stittsville Ice Hawks played like pros.  Throughout the game, an Ice Hawk was always in the right place at the right time to move the puck along. Unfortunately the team just couldn’t connect enough times against a very solid team.

The Ice Hawks should be proud of themselves because the spirit and grit displayed by every team member the entire season never made it easy for any of the other teams they played against.  Each player has finished better off than they began and have won the admiration and pride of their parents, coaches, trainers and all of their supporting fans.

As the playoffs end one question remains. What will happen next to that huge ball of tape that was large enough to be the team’s mascot?
