2018-19 Recruitment for Officials and Timekeepers

Thanks to those who applied, recruitment is now closed.

Recruitment for Officials and Timekeepers for 2018/19 season

Referees

We are recruiting referees for the upcoming hockey season.

Officiating gives you a whole new perspective on hockey.  Whatever your goals, refereeing can offer:
·  a great way to stay involved in the game after ending a playing/coaching career
·  excellent way to get stay active in the winter months
·  part-time job that allows you to meet new friends

The age that we start to accept referees is 14 years old. The job as an official can be very demanding and a high level of maturity is needed. Newer and entry level officials will start off doing house league novice and atom games. The majority of these games are Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Officiating also requires a high level of commitment. There are a number of people counting on you show up, know your rules and act professionally. These include your fellow referees, coaching staff, parents, and most importantly the kids.

If you are interested in becoming an official this season:
1.       Decide if officiating really is for you.  Officiating is fun, but it isn’t for everyone.  Are you ready for the challenge?  Do you know what costs are involved?  Are you ready to make the time commitment?
2.       Complete and submit the application form.   We will then be conducting on-ice evaluations and off-ice interviews as part of the selection process in early September.  Selected candidates must be available for interview and on-ice testing on either September 5 or 6.
3 .       If you are successful in being selected as a referee for the upcoming season,  you will be given instruction on how to register for a certification clinic.  There are fees associated with this step.
4.       Once you successfully complete the clinic, you will be required to contact the Referee-In-Chief again so that we know you have obtained your certification.

The Referee-in-Chief for Stittsville is Chris Montieth. Contact email refereeinchief@stittsvilleminorhockey.com

Timekeepers

Once again this season, SMHA will be looking for timekeepers to run the game clock and complete game sheets at all SMHA home games at the four rinks for both house and competitive games.  Timekeepers must be at least 14 years old, and must be familiar with referee signals, rules of the game and be counted on to act responsibly at all times during their shifts.

Testing and interviews will be conducted in early September to select timekeepers.  Please contact Fiona Livingstone, VP Operations, at vpoperations@stittsvilleminorhockey.comfor any further information.

Deadline for applications for both referee and timekeeper positions is Tuesday, August 28.  Please ensure when you are completing the application form that you are providing your own email address.  All contact with applicants for either one of these positions must be done with the applicant and not the parent(s).  Please ensure you indicate on the form which position you are applying for.
