2023-2024 U7 Welcome Message

Good Afternoon,

Welcome to the Stittsville Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) U7 “IP” program. To all of our returning players/families, welcome back.  To all our new players and families to the U7 program, welcome to the Stittsville Minor Hockey Association. We can't wait to meet you.

Our names are Wendy and Cory Poole and we will be the U7 co-convenors this year. Last year was our son's first year playing hockey and we ended up helping out by managing his team. We all really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to this upcoming season.

As registration is now closed, we are excited to send out this initial email to make contact and provide some details that will help paint a clearer picture as to what the month of September will look like for our little players.

Conditioning (a total of 4 sessions):

  • Will be held on Sept 2/3 and Sept 9/10
  • Morning time slots typically between 8am-12pm. Locations to be confirmed.
  • Players are divided into sessions by last name
  • Not considered mandatory, but definitely beneficial

Sort Outs (a total of 2 sessions):
  • Will be held on Sept 16/17
  • Morning time slots typically between 8am-12pm. Locations to be confirmed.
  • More information to follow as we approach this weekend.
  • Considered mandatory to best place your child on a team with players who are the same skill level
Volunteers:

Parents, you play a key role in making your child's hockey season a success. Please consider volunteering as a coach, on ice helper or team manager. Participate in the fundraising or community activities, arrive on time for practices and always follow the Respect in Sport mandate.

With that being said, we are currently looking for a few more head coaches. If this is a role that potentially interests you, please let me know so that we can chat further. For those that signed up to volunteer when they registered their child, we will be sending an email out shortly regarding availability of on ice volunteers for the conditioning and sort-outs. If you are interested in assisting with these weekends and have not received an email from us by end of day tomorrow, please reach out.

Friend Requests:

At the U7 level, we do accept 1 friend request which we will do our best to honour. Our first priority is to make sure that the players are placed on the right team for their skill level. We must receive an email from the parents/guardians of both players confirming that they agree to the friend request.

Equipment:

For first time players, here is a complete list of equipment required by all playersYou can also check out the Rams Community Buy and Sell Facebook Page for gently used, brand new and sometimes free hockey items. You will need to provide your own hockey jersey for the conditioning sessions. Please also have your child's first name written on the front of their helmet with a label or a piece of hockey tape.

Email Communications:

This email has only gone out to the email address of the parent or guardian that completed the online registration. Once the teams have been formed, the coaches will collect all necessary contact info.

We will be in touch in the next week or so with exact times and locations for our first weekend of conditioning.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you all soon and spending a fun hockey season together. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Have a great day.

Thanks,

Cory and Wendy Poole
