2023 - U7 Evaluation Information

Hi Parents,

Thank you all for another great weekend of conditioning and thanks again to all of our amazing volunteers on the ice.

As promised, below is the information for the weekend of Sept 16/17. This email does contain a lot of information so please be sure to read through it carefully.

Even though the sessions are called “sort-outs” next weekend, that’s more for parents. The goal is still the same as the conditioning sessions … to have some fun on the ice playing/learning the amazing sport of hockey.

As part of the checking-in process, your child will be given a hockey jersey to wear.  The colour and number of the jersey will be recorded to help us with the sort-out and balancing process. Please allow for a bit of additional time at the registration table when we hand out jerseys and record colour/number.

***Please RETURN this jersey after each session*** You will most likely receive a different jersey for day 2.

Ice Sessions:

  • Your child will go through a very familiar process and structure as during our conditioning sessions.

  • After a quick warmup, the players will run through 3 different stations. These rotations will focus on core competencies of the U7 program (e.g., Forwards Skating, Stopping, Balance, Turning, etc).  The players will attempt these drills 3 times at each station and will be scored on their abilities

  • Each station will have evaluators with the goal of providing a well-rounded and unbiased team approach to evaluations

  • Evaluators do not have the names of the players and will record results on a provided scorecard by player number and colour only. Some potential coaches may be involved as evaluators, but are not allowed to rank their own children. The results are returned to the U7 Convenors at the end of every sort-out session.  Hardcopies of the results are then given to and kept by the SMHA Director of Development.

  • You might see a couple of evaluators sitting in the stands, so please refrain from sitting right next to them (they will have clipboards, so easy enough to figure out who is an evaluator)

Saturday, September 16th

Location: Johnny Leroux (10 Warner-Colpitts Ln, Ottawa, ON K2H 6N4)

Sunday, September 17th

Location: Cardel Rec Centre Rink A (1500 Shea Rd, Stittsville, ON K2S 0B2)

Looking Ahead:

Once this weekend finishes up, the data from the sort-out sessions will be compiled. We will use this snapshot of the players to guide us in creating our teams. We will absolutely make an effort to honour all friend requests, while also giving consideration to balanced teams and providing the environment to support the development of all players.

Our regular season will begin on the weekend of September 23/24.  The U7 schedule is typically Saturday mornings in Beckwith and Sunday mornings at Johnny Leroux. We do see the occasional practice at Cardel Rec Center. Please be prepared for a couple of 6am practices on Sundays.

If you are considering withdrawing from the program, please have a read through our refund policy: http://rams.goalline.ca/page.php?page_id=68398

Friend Requests:

All friend requests must be submitted to us no later than Friday, September 15th.

We are really excited to get this season started and to watch the kids develop, create new friendships and have an amazing and fun hockey season.

Please reach out if you have any questions about next weekend.

Thanks,

Cory and Wendy Poole
