Stittsville Midget B4 wins the 2017 Mike Mulvaney Memorial Tournament

On the Family Day long weekend, the Stittsville Midget B4 team traveled to Peterborough to attend the annual Mike Mulvaney Memorial House League Tournament. The boys came out flat in their first game Friday afternoon, losing 4-0 to the home town Peterborough team. The team tightened up their laces for the evening game and beat Cumberland 4-2. The momentum continued on Saturday with  dominant wins over Blackburn 6-1 and Canterbury 4-1. That put the team in a 3 way tie for 2 playoff spots after completion of the round robin and they managed to place 2nd in Group A after a goals-for tie breaker. Sunday morning the boys took on Group B winner South Grenville in the semi-final. The boys battled to a 3-3 tie after regulation and won the game on an exciting 8 round shootout! There was no stopping this team in the afternoon final. Oozing confidence after their 4 successive wins, the players went to work against Leitrim and skated to an impressive 4-0 win! It's impossible to point out individual accomplishments because everyone of these kids played their best hockey of the season in capturing this championship. The coaches and parents are very proud of the effort these boys made in representing Stittsville! Congratulations!

Stittsville Cyclones win the 13th Annual Capital Peewee House A League Classic

A great weekend of hockey was capped with a very tight come from behind win in the final against Citoyens De Hull.

The Cyclones started the game with the first goal on a great passing play between Cameron Cheslock and Sam Booker, but Hull answered with 2 in the second period.  Two quick goals from Thomas Wainwright and Erik Wilson in the third period were enough for the Cyclones to take their second tournament win of the season.

We started the tournament with a 3-0 win Friday morning against Citoyens de Hull and followed that up Friday afternoon with a 5-1 win over the Leitrim Hawks.  Saturday afternoon we lost 4-3 to the Kanata Bardownskis, but won our division setting up a Quarterfinal match against the Casselman Vikings. A tight 1-0 win in the quarter final with clutch saves from Ben Fowlow with less than a minute left to preserve the shutout win and setup a semifinal against the Nepean Eagles.  The boys wasted no time by scoring four first period goals against Nepean and cruising to a 5-1 win to head to the final for the rematch with the Citoyens de Hull.

A great team effort for the second tournament win of the season!

Stittsville A3 Nachos Win the Bradford Blue & Gold Classic

On the weekend of Jan 20-22nd, the Stittsville A3 Nachos travelled to Bradford to play in the Bradford Blue & Gold Classic.  On Friday they played two games which the won convincingly 7-2 against the North York Knights and 5-2 against the Brampton Bears.  On Saturday, their final round robin game was against the Newmarket Redman which the team, now on a roll, won 7-1.

Sunday saw the quarter finals, and the Nachos coming up against Stittsville A3 Vikings.  The game went back and forth displaying the talents of both Stittsville teams.  It was a great game to watch as both teams played their hearts out.  Fortunately for us, we manage to win 4-1 and it was on to the Semi-finals.

Here the Nachos were up against the Leitrim Hawks A1…The Hawks took a one goal lead in the first period and it wasn't until the third until the Nachos were able to tie it up.  The game was tied after regulation and off to overtime we went.  Playing 4 on 4, it took our players just two minutes in to score the OT winner!

Now on to the Finals!  It was the Cumberland Dukes A3 that stood between us and the trophy!  Another nail biter was in the cards…After regulation, it was 2-2.  Again OT was 4 on 4 for 3 minutes and this time, it ended with no one scoring.  On to 3 on 3 for three minutes.  One Minute in, we seized our opportunity and scored to send the players and parents into celebrations.  It was a great team effort!

Congratulations to players - Cooper Holly, Hunter Evans, Jacob Hedge, Logan Sample, Annabelle Kruzich, Janik Selway, Daniel Raymond, Jacob Sherwin, Luke Hitchmough, James Hooper, Phoenix Weatherbie, Joshua Howard, Eli Schoch, Alexei Smith, Maddox Rennick and Scot Melvin. Bantam B5 Stittsville Wolf Pack are Gloucester Cougar Cup Finalists

The Bantam B5 Stittsville Wolf Pack recently participated in the Gloucester Cougar Cup.  Playing well as a team, they went undefeated in round-robin play, During the semi-finals, the team was missing 3 players (a full forward line) but still went on to win.

The championship game proved more challenging.  The opponent team was extremely strong, coming from an association without an A team.  A hard-fought battle ensued, and the Wolf Pack lost by a goal scored at the end of an overtime period.
Great job Wolf Pack!

Fresh off taking the Bell Capital Cup championship, the Minor Atom Rams repeated their success by winning the 13th Annual Capital Winter Classic Tournament which took place in Ottawa, 20-22 January 2017.

The team went undefeated in the preliminary round beating Port Credit Storm 2-1, the Scarborough Ice Raiders 5-0 and, the Kitchener Rangers 7-0.  By coming out on top of the 14 team division, the Rams earned a favourable bye into the semi-finals.  The semi-final game against league rival Kanata Blazers was another hard fought battle which ended up tied 3-3 after regulation time.  It would take almost two overtime periods before Liam Mark would find the back of the net to send the Rams into the finals.  In the championship game, the Rams found themselves up against the Leitrim Hawks who scored early the second period to go up 1-0.  The Rams stuck to their game plan and were rewarded at the end of the second period by scoring three goals in less than a minute !  The Hawks had no answer to the strong defensive play which allowed the Rams to seal a 4-2 victory and take home another gold medal.  A special thank you goes out to the complete coaching staff and team manager (Dawn Wainwright) for their efforts making the season so special.

Minor Atom Stittsville Rams Take Gold !

First row Goalies – Joshua Wainwright, Riley Martin
Second row – Christian Lamb, Liam Mark, Cohen Sidney, Kallum Malloy, Ryan Wallace, Keegan Pearce, Cooper Stansel

Following the initial four games in the first day and a half, the Rams found themselves seeded 4th out of the 12 teams competing in the Minor Atom ‘A’ division and were subsequently slotted in the quarter finals against the Kanata Blazers.  The game was a hard fought, tight checking battle which ended up tied 2-2 after regulation time.  Cooper Stansel was the Rams savior this time scoring at 7:41 into overtime sending the team into the semis against the Leitrim Hawks.  The boys knew this game would be a challenge as they had previously tied the Hawks 2-2 in the preliminary round.  Once again, the teams played very well and each traded a couple of goals to send the game tied into the 3rd period.  In the 3rd, the Rams goalie Riley Martin shut the door and the forwards came up big with two unanswered goals to seal the victory 4-2.

The win put the Rams into the finals on New Year’s Eve against the Nepean Raiders (Black).  The match was another incredibly exciting, albeit tense affair as the game’s momentum shifted from side to side. The Rams opened the scoring with an amazing shot by Mitchel Cairns which found the back of the net half way through the 1st period.  It would prove to be enough.  From that point on, the Rams defensive play took over and Joshua Wainwright shone in goal.  Josh made several amazing saves keeping the opposition off the scoreboard and deservedly earned the 1st Star of the game.

Playing in the finals at the Canadian Tire Centre was an incredible experience for the players, coaches and all spectators who witnessed the game.  Winning the championship was the icing on the cake – well done boys !

The Rams players celebrate their 1-0 win as the final horn sounds.

Rams #12 Ryan Wallace leads the charge out of their own end zone.

Rams #2 Christian Lamb fires a shot at the Nepean goal.

Peewee A1 Stittsville Cyclones win the 35th Wally Beavis Tournament

A great weekend of hockey was capped with a very tight game against our rivals from Stittsville.  The game was back and forth throughout and couldn’t be settled during regular play after some amazing saves from both goalies in the third period and overtime.

Our team shot first and scored with goals from Cameron Cheslock and Bryce Usher, the Mustangs scored once and our MVP of the game Ben Fowlow came up with a great right pad save on their final shooter to clinch the win!

We started the tournament with a win Friday morning win against the Leitrim Hawks and followed that up Friday evening with a win over the Oakville Flyers.  Saturday morning we beat the West Carlton Warriors and Saturday afternoon we finished the first round with a win over the Kanata Kings.    We then played the Canterbury Fighting Camels in the semifinals, we got off to a slow start and were down 1-0, but then scored 7 unanswered goals to clinch our spot in the finals.

A great team effort for the win!
